Valentine's Outfit Inspiration: Some Outfit Ideas

Do you want to get dressed up this Valentine’s Day (February 14)? Are you heading out somewhere for a lovely meal? Or have you got a first date planned? How exciting!

We always say our Breton shirts are perfect with every outfit, but at Valentine’s Day they’re even better. They’re comfy, they look smart but not too try-hard, they can be smartened up, they can be dressed down…basically you’ll look fresh and chic with minimal effort. Which means having far more time to do your hair, re-do your lipstick (honestly, you looked fine in the fuchsia but if you feel more comfortable in red, you do you) and take a few pre-date selfies.

Here are our ideas for ways to wear your favourite stripy top to your date, from formal through to super-casual. All you need to do now is splash on the Chanel No. 5 and have a great night.

Underneath a Strappy Black Dress

The 90s called and it wants its favourite look back, but it does that a lot. We usually just let that message go to voicemail. We love this casual-meets-formal look with our original Breton shirt and a slip dress, especially for dates in French restaurants. It’s not a huge necessity, but if you’ve got the excuse to go, why wouldn’t you go for moules frites and a chocolate mousse to share?

Add a leather jacket over the top and a pair of Chelsea boots for a toughened-up take on Parisienne cool, or wrap a soft mohair cardigan around your shoulders for a cute cosy look.

With Slinky, Leather-Look Pants

Get sexy un petit peu and pull on those leather skinny jeans you’ve been saving for a special occasion. Here’s a secret for you — this is a special occasion.

We love the Bateau Marinere with leather pants. The boat neck just adds a bit of sophistication, and the slim stripes are incredibly flattering. What’s great about this outfit is that it easily works the line between dressed-up and smart-casual. You could be heading out for cocktails and end up popping Champagne on top of the Eiffel Tower and you’d still look great.

Wear this hot little outfit with stilletto ankle boots or strappy heeled sandals, and throw your favourite coat over the top. Done deal.

With Jeans and Statement Jewellery

You cannot go wrong with a Picasso II and your favourite pair of jeans. You know, the ones that make you feel like Beyoncé, J-Lo and Brigitte Bardot all in one denim-clad package?

The French tricolour is represented in the red, white and blue of this shirt, giving you an effortlessly cool French feel. This is slightly different to your usual Breton shirt because it’s not totally covered in stripes. The Picasso II is a replica of Picasso’s favourite shirt, but on you it’ll look smart, sophisticated and ever so flattering.

Add red ballet pumps, a chunky statement necklace or hoop earrings and a fresh manicure and you’re ready to accept that huge bouquet of roses.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Psst: don’t forget to follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
