What to Wear on Bastille Day

What to Wear on Bastille Day

Bastille Day is on the horizon - but what it is?

If you were born in (or live in) France, you'll know all about it. If not, you might find yourself visiting the country during the Bastille Day celebrations on Friday, July 14.

The annual event is the national day of France. In French, it is formally called the Fête nationale française and it commemorates the date of the storming of the Bastille in 1789, during the earliest stages of the French revolution.

An Event Not to be Missed

If you're considering visiting France (Paris, specifically) this summer, you might choose to time your trip to coincide with Bastille Day, with the official tourist office for the French capital calling it an 'event not to miss'.

Bringing people together over two days, the site says you can expect free entertainment, a military parade, an outdoor operatic concert, fireworks, and more.

What to Wear for the Celebrations

Whether you're visiting Paris for the day or heading to the capital for a whole weekend, you'll probably want to prioritise comfort over style. Having said that, though, you could be comfortable and stylish.

The French look great in the most simplistic of get-ups; a classic Parisian look is minimal jewellery and make-up, a pair of well-fitting jeans and a crisp, white skirt, or a good-quality t-shirt.

Palazzo Trousers for a Day-to-Night Look

You might swap denim jeans for a pair of palazzo, wide-legged trousers for a look that can take you from daytime Bastille Day celebrations to evening Bastille parties. Or you might want to wear your trusty jeans with a comfy Breton t-shirt all day and night. The choice is yours.

Should Paris be treated to some scorching hot weather (and there's a good chance - it is July, after all), you might need nothing more than a pair of sliders, a tote bag, and our Breton beach dress (pictured above). It’s also ideal if you're planning to hop on and off trains following your trip to Paris, to visit some nearby French tourist hotspots. Easy to wash (even in hotel room sinks, if you must) and easier to wear, our beach dress will see you through many a summer.

Dungarees and Your Favourite T-Shirt

Dungarees are a great choice - and not just as maternity wear. Team them with a cropped t-shirt or a regular, short or long-sleeved one. Either way you'll look effortlessly stylish. Add a pair of high-top trainers and a brightly-coloured scarf, tied jauntily around your head, and you have yourself a summer look for most occasions.

Are you attending the Bastille Day celebrations? If so, what will you be wearing? Whether you're visiting France in person or you're planning to watch the action via YouTube or another online service, we hope you enjoy the day.

Until next time...
